About the Most Small Business Friendly Community Award

Many communities are aware of the importance of small business to the economic and social health of their community.  Through the "Most Small Business Friendly Community Award", the Small Business Roundtable wants to recognize the leadership of local governments in fostering the growth and success of small business in their communities.  The award also raises awareness of the significant contribution of small business to the provincial economy.

In 2011, applications for the award were based on measures the local government implemented that were aimed at:

  • Reducing regulatory barriers
  • Enhancing small business competitiveness
  • Recognizing the contribution small businesses make to their communities
  • Climate action initiatives that support small business
  • Ten finalists were announced in August 2011, and the winners were announced during Small Business Month in October.

By April 2012, the Small Business Roundtable will be issuing a call for submissions for the 2012 "Most Small Business Friendly Community Award".  Invitations to submit applications will be forwarded to all local governments in the province, and award winners will be announced during Small Business Month in October 2012.
