Q: What is your favourite BC destination?
Keith: I will have to answer that with 2 categories as BC is so diverse. Coast- Tofino, Ucluelet. Interior- Revelstoke and area.
Q: What do you like to do in your leisure time?
Keith: I have a cabin on Shawnigan Lake that I built. I enjoy the serenity, watersports and lake life. I am constantly renovating my cabin at the lake or house in Victoria. My passion is woodworking as I make furniture with live edge design.
Q: What was your favourite subject in High School?
Keith: Interestingly, I was very good in math and stats. I use that knowledge significantly with financial statements and general accounting in my business.
Q: What was your career aspiration when you were 20? How close did you get?
Keith: I always wanted to work with a professional sports team. I left Victoria and went to Laurentian University in Ontario where I graduated with a Commerce Degree in Sports Administration. This led me to work with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the old North American Soccer League (NASL) where I progressed to be the Team Administrator for the Club. I was the liaison between the players and management which was a very rewarding experience.
Q: What is the thing that most entrepreneurs tend to overlook that they should be most focused on?
Keith: In my 30 plus years owning a business, there wasn't a day that went by that I didn't use my HR skills that I learned in University. A happy team is so important. When I was 19, I worked in a lumber mill in Victoria. I became a labourer on the assembly line to produce plywood. There was so much takeaway from that job that I have incorporated into my business. Understanding people and their work duties helped me to be successful.
