Overview

Northwest B.C. is sparsely populated with 99,000 people or 2% of the provincial population. Terrace and Kitimat are the major centres and economic activity centres around transportation and logistics, mining and energy. Smithers, Vanderhoof and Houston are the largest centres in the Nechako Region. Forestry, mining, agriculture are the primary sectors with a growing tourism industry centred around Indigenous cultures and outdoor wilderness and recreation.
